Actress, advocate, and singer Bellamy Young is best known for her award-winning role of ‘President Mellie Grant’ on the ShondaLand /ABC series SCANDAL.

More recent television work includes HULU's THE OTHER BLACK GIRL, with Eric McCormick & Garcelle Beauvais; the ABC drama, PROMISED LAND, with John Ortiz; FOX’s critically acclaimed drama PRODIGAL SON, alongside Michael Sheen; as well as the revival of THE WALTONS franchise as the iconic 'Olivia Walton.' Other fan favorite roles include ‘Beth’ on CRIMINAL MINDS and ‘Dr Grace Miller’ on SCRUBS. Young made her television debut as ‘Dr. Courtney Evens’ on the long-running NBC soap ANOTHER WORLD.

On the bigger screen, Young has been in both studio fare like Ava Duvernay’s A WRINKLE IN TIME, Randall Wallace's WE WERE SOLDIERS, and JJ Abrams' MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: III, as well as many indies like the Sundance hit THE FREEBIE starring Dax Shepard, NIGHT STALKER alongside Lou Diamond Philips, and A COUNTRY REMEDY, which she also helped produce in her home state of North Carolina.

Young began her acting career on stage, starring on Broadway in Cy Coleman's THE LIFE and off-Broadway in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. Amidst many years of regional theater work, her favorite collaborations include creating the role of 'Margaret' with the Randy Newman and David Mamet for their version of FAUST (La Jolla Playhouse and The Goodman) as well as 'LouAnn' in the world premiere of Pulitzer prize winning playwright Lanford Wilson's BOOK OF DAYS (St. Louis Rep and Hartford Stage).

Singing has been a life-long love for Young. In 2015, she released her debut album FAR AWAY SO CLOSE: a collection of contemporary covers influenced by her North Carolina roots. Later that year, she performed at the White House for President Obama and his family in the National Christmas Tree Lighting telecast with Andra Day and Kelsea Ballerini. She has also gotten to sing the National Anthem for both the NY Mets & the LA Dodgers.

Young was born in the mountains of Asheville, NC. She was adopted out of foster care at an early age. She displayed a love of singing and dancing, and her adopted parents tried to give her opportunities to pursue her interests through pageants and regional theater there. She attended Yale University and the British American Drama Academy at Oxford College in England. Young was financially able to attend Yale because of a privately donated scholarship, and thanks to Scandal, she is now able to provide an annual scholarship for current a Yale student. After graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue her dreams.

Young is proud to be an Ambassador for the humanitarian organization CARE, for whom she created the podcast She Leads With CARE, to uplift the stories of incredible female leaders from around the world who have changed their own lives and their communities with the help of CARE. You can listen to the podcast- as well as Young’s album- on all platforms. She is also a spokesperson for the ASPCA and remains very involved with the American political process, firmly believing it takes consensus and communication to make democracy work. Her first novel, THE AETHERION CODE, co-written with her dear friend Fay Masterson, will be released worldwide July 1st, 2025.
